Key Fob Replacement for the Seat Ibiza
The fifth-generation Ibiza that has been redesigned, is a contender for the supermini segment. It competes against the Renault Clio, Peugeot 208 and Ford Fiesta.
With a thumb nail or small screwdriver with a flat-headed head (A) and pull upwards the key fob compartment cover (B). Replace the CR2025 coin battery to ensure that it's in the correct direction and polarity.
Dead Coin Battery
The most common reason for a key fob to not lock or unlock your car is due to a dead coin battery. It is likely to show symptoms before it dies like a decrease in range or no power at all. It is easy to replace it with a brand new (CR2025) one at your local grocery store. You should be aware that using the wrong or incompatible batteries can damage your key fob. Make sure that the new battery is the same size, specification and voltage as the old one.
If your fob was exposed to clean water, such as rainwater or soapy water from the tap It is likely that corrosion has damaged the chip's electronic components. You might try cleaning your chip with alcohol or an electronic cleaner to see if it helps but it is more likely that the chip is damaged.
The most efficient solution is to buy a new key fob. They are available from most major car dealers and can be fitted by a professional mechanic. They can also be bought on the internet through sites like ebay. It is best to work on a surface that has good lighting. This will make it easier to work on the smaller parts inside. You'll also be able to avoid placing things in the wrong place. Always work on your key fob in a place that is safe and secure.
Water Damage
If your key fob is soaked by dropping it in the pool or throwing it in the washing machine you might think that it's lost but there's a chance. The problem is when the circuit board inside the fob is in contact with water. It creates a fantastic conductor, and it shorts out the components. It also accelerates corrosion and rust.
This is an easy fix. Find something absorbent to place inside the fob. A tissue or paper towel would be ideal. Then apply a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to wipe down the circuit board as well as other components to eliminate any residues of acid from batteries and contamination. Allow the circuit board to air dry in a dry, warm environment for a few weeks.
After the fob has dried out and the battery is replaced with an alternative of the same size and the same polarity ('+' directed upwards). It can be difficult to open the fob in order to access the battery but if you have a small screwdriver that is flat handy it should slide in easily. After the fob is reassembled it should function like a normal. If seat car key cutting and programming doesn't work, you'll require reprogramming it or replace the receiver module.
Radio Interference
When a keyfob operates properly, it broadcasts a radio frequency that is received by a receiver module inside your vehicle. If the signal is disrupted the key fob will not work. This could be due to objects like weather conditions or other transmitters operating on the same frequency near your car.
In this case it is best to replace the battery in your key fob. It is recommended to replace the battery in your key fob.
Some aftermarket LED lighting that utilizes the same frequency as a remote key fob could interfere with the signal and block it from reaching the receiver modules. To prevent interference, the LED lights must be turned off or switched to an alternative frequency.
If the problem persists after replacing the battery, the antenna on your key fob may be damaged or malfunctioning. The antenna is responsible for transmitting signals between the key fob and the receiver module. An OBDII scanner can aid in diagnosing the issue by telling you what is wrong with the system. The scanner will ask for information about your vehicle including the make, model, engine type and VIN number.
Faulty Receiver Module
The key fob houses an electronic receiver that sends the signals for lock and unlock. All electronic components on board will stop working if the receiver module is affected by a malfunction. If this is the case Reprogramming using an OBDII scanner or replacing the key fob may assist.
This issue can be caused by a dead battery in the coin-cell, water damage or signal interference. You can reset the on-board computer by disconnecting the 12 volt batteries for 15 minutes. This will remove any remaining power that may be causing problems. Start by removing the cable from the negative terminal first, followed by the positive terminal. After 15 minutes, reconnect the battery in reverse order: positive first, negative second.
The internal chip inside the key fob may be damaged by water or dirt. If your key has stopped working after being wet, you need to clean the electronic component using isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner prior to reinstalling the battery. If the key stops working after exposure to soapy or salted water, it is likely that the chip has been damaged and needs to be replaced.

A damaged antenna module fuse could be a cause. It is the fuse that transmits a signal to the vehicle to lock or unlock. The fuse can be found in a variety of places, based on the type of vehicle. For instance it could be located under the rear seat, or in the trunk, or on the side of the dashboard.
